The Apple iPad is the leader in the next generation of portable devices. The iPad is what is known as a tablet computer and designed for Internet browsing, multimedia playback, gaming, and office on the move. Launched in April 2010, it began a new era of portable devices encompassing smart phones and laptops. By May 2010 Apple had already sold over 1 million iPads in the US alone and was gearing up for launch dates across the world.
The big brother of the earlier iPhone and iPod Touch, the iPad is operated by a similar OS to the iPhone. A multi-touch LCD screen enables the user to navigate seamlessly to each layer of the iPad features.
Connect the iPad via built-in WiFi (or the 3G data connection in the high-end models), to browse the Internet, upgrade or install software, stream and download media. A USB cable is used to sync the iPad to iTunes on your PC.
The iPad has thousands of iPad-specific applications including e-book readers. Users can also use aps written for the iPhone and iPod touch.
